Application is registered based on a complaint received by post
This original application has been registered under Sections 14 and 15 of National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 (hereinafter referred to as ‘NGT Act, 2010’) on a letter petition dated 09.07.2022 sent by Ram Kripal Gautam, Mahamantri, Shri Ganga Sabha (Regd.), Rishikesh, Office at Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh.
It is alleged that sewer chambers are located at Triveni Ghat of River Ganga at Rishikesh which sometimes due to overflow results in spreading pollutants across the area polluting holy water of river Ganga. Such pollutants also cause foul smell and create unhygienic conditions thereby causing health hazards to local people.
In our view, the matter, in the first instance, must be looked into by concerned authorities. Hence, we direct State PCB, District Magistrate, Dehradun and Assistant Engineer, Garhwal Jal Sansthan, Ganga Pollution Control (Unit), Rishikesh to look into the matter and if finds the complaint to be correct, to take appropriate remedial and preventive action in accordance with law within one month.
The District Magistrate, Dehradun shall act as nodal agency in this matter.
With the above direction, the application is disposed of.
A copy of this order be forwarded to State PCB, District Magistrate, Dehradun and Assistant Engineer, Garhwal Jal Sansthan, Ganga Pollution Control (Unit), Rishikesh by e-mail for compliance.
