Judgment

The matter has been taken up through video conferencing in the light of COVID-19 pandemic.
The present petition has been filed for issuance of writ in the nature of mandamus or any appropriate direction, thereby directing respondent No.2-Additional Director General of Police, Prisons, Punjab, to examine the request of the petitioner and to protect his life and liberty from attempts made by the jail authorities and other police officials to stage his elimination. Besides the same, the petitioner has sought permission for cooking food and purchasing food from external sources, under the provisions of Punjab Jail Manual, 1966.
It is the claim of the petitioner that he is given inhuman treatment in the jail premises at the instance of the Jail Superintendent. Relating to the same, he has also filed a representation, which is Annexure P-5. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that in pursuance of filing of the said representation, the food card of the petitioner has been activated, but no other steps have been taken to redress the grievance of the petitioner relating to the contents of the said representation.

Mr. Nikhil Chopra, Additional Advocate General, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the respondents.
Learned State Counsel has given assurance of redressing the grievance of the petitioner, in consonance with the contents of the representation, which is placed on record as Annexure P-5.
In view of the assertions so made and assurance given by the learned State Counsel, the writ petition is hereby disposed of with the direction to the jail authorities to consider the representation (Annexure P-5), in accordance with law and pass a speaking order thereby redressing the grievance of the petitioner (if any), within a period of six weeks from today onwards.
Accordingly, the writ petition stands disposed of.
