This Writ Petition is filed by the petitioner challenging the action of the respondents in not providing the information to the petitioner with respect to criminal cases registered against him in various police stations in the State of Andhra Pradesh from 01.01.2019 to till date, as illegal and arbitrary.
Case of the Writ Petitioner, in brief, is that the petitioner is an Ex-MLA of Vijayawada Central Constituency during the period from 2014 to 2019. The Election Commission of India announced schedule for elections to the Lok Sabha and the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly to be held on 13th May, 2024 and the candidates have to file their nomination papers commencing from 18th April, 2024 to 25th April, 2024. The Writ Petitioner intends to file his nomination from Vijayawada Central Constituency in the ensuing elections from Telugu Desam Party, and as per the election rules, he has to file his nomination along with an affidavit mentioning all the criminal cases pending against him. Accordingly, the petitioner made representations to respondent Nos.2 to 32 on 06.03.2024 and to respondent No.32 on 22.03.2024 requesting them to furnish information regarding the criminal cases pending against him in various police stations in the State of Andhra Pradesh. Despite his representations, the respondents are not acting upon the same. Hence, the Writ Petition.
Today, when this Writ Petition has come up for hearing, the learned Government Pleader for Home submitted that, the respondents-police officials have furnished all the particulars in relation to the crimes that have been registered as against the petitioner. The learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner concurred with the submission made by the learned Government Pleader for Home.
In view of the same, Writ Petition No.8252 of 2024 is closed. There shall be no order as to costs.
As a sequel thereto, the miscellaneous petitions, if any, pending in this Writ Petition shall stand closed.
