Judgment

The above writ petition is filed with following prayers :
“i. Issue a writ in the nature of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order of direction, commanding respondents 2 to 5 to provide adequate and sufficient police protection for the conduct of 57 Mahatma Gandhi Boat Race-2023, Mannar proposed be held on 27.08.2023;
ii. declare that petitioner is entitled to get sufficient and adequate police protection for the peaceful conduct of 57 Mahatma Gandhi Boat Race-2023, Mannar proposed to be held at Pampa river on 27.08.2023;
iii. allow such other and further relief's as this Hon'ble Court find deem fit to in the nature and circumstances of the case
iv. allow the Writ Petition (Civil) with the cost of the petition and
v. dispense with the production of translation of vernacular documents.” [SIC]
The petitioner is the General Convenor of 57th Mannar Mahatma Gandhi Boat Race, 2023 Committee conducting the Boat race at Mannar on 27.08.2023 at Mahatma Water Stadium, Mannar. The case of the petitioner is that the boat race is scheduled on 27.08.2023. The petitioner apprehend law and order problem. Even though the petitioner approached the Police authorities, the petitioner apprehend that the Police will not act. Hence, this writ petition.
Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Pleader.
After hearing both sides, I think the prayer can be allowed.
Therefore, this writ petition is disposed of with the following directions :
1) The respondent Nos. 3 and 4 are directed to provide adequate and sufficient police protection for the conduct of 57th Mahatma Gandhi Boat Race, 2023 Mannar proposed to be held on 27.08.2023.
2) The petitioner will produce a certified copy of this judgment along with a copy of this writ petition before the respondent Nos. 3 and 4 for compliance.
Issue a copy of this judgment today itself.
