The case of the petitioners is that they submitted a representation dated 14.10.2026 to the State Election Commissioner as well as the Election Commission of India, requesting them to issue appropriate directions to the police authorities to provide details of criminal cases registered against or pending against prospective candidates across the State, to enable them to disclose such particulars in their nominations for the local body elections. As no action has been taken on the said representation, the petitioners have filed the present Writ Petition.
Heard learned counsel for the petitioners, learned Standing Counsel appearing for respondent No.1 and the learned Advocate General appearing for respondent Nos.2 to 4.
Learned Standing Counsel appearing for respondent No.1, on instructions, has stated that the representation dated 14.10.2026 submitted by the petitioners would be considered and appropriate orders would be passed in accordance with law, if the same has not already been disposed of.
Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the case and the submissions made by the learned counsel, instead of going into the merits of the case, this Court feels it appropriate to dispose of the Writ Petition by directing respondent No.1 to consider the representation submitted by the petitioners on 14.10.2026, and pass appropriate orders within two (2) days from today, in accordance with law.
With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
As a sequel, Interlocutory Applications pending, if any, in this Writ Petition, shall stand closed.
