Judgment
This Original Application under Section 14 and 15 of National Green Tribunal, Act 2010 has been registered by exercising suo-moto jurisdiction on a letter petition dated 19.02.2024 sent by Saraswati Behera stating that they are residents of CGERWA (Block Nos 20-35), CPWD Colony, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi whereat on 12.02.2024 at around 08.00 AM some unidentified persons cut a neem tree adjacent to block 28 & 29 and when local residents inquired about permission or authority they failed to show any such document. It is complained that the neem tree has been illegally cut at the aforesaid place and no appropriate action has been taken by the concerned authorities.
In our view, this matter can be looked into at the first instance by the authorities at local level and we accordingly dispose of this Original Application by directing Divisional Forest Officer, South to look into the matter, collect relevant information and if it finds any violation of environmental laws or norms, take appropriate remedial, preventive and punitive action against the erring persons in accordance with law within one month and submit a compliance report with Registrar General of Tribunal by e-mail at [email protected] preferably in the form of searchable PDF/OCR Support PDF and not in the form of Image PDF. If found necessary, the matter will be listed for consideration before the Bench.
With the above directions, OA is disposed of.
A copy of this order be forwarded to Divisional Forest Officer, South by e-mail for compliance.
