The petitioner through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is seekingThe petitioner through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is seeking direction to respondents to pay an appropriate amount of compensation on account of injuries due to attack by stray dog.
As per petition, the petitioner who is 65 years’ old who sustained injuries due to attack by stray dog while going on foot near Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur. He preferred representation dated 03.11.2025 to the respondents seeking compensation but to no avail. The State Government initially framed Punjab Compensation to the Victims of Animal Attacks and Accidents Policy, 2023 (for short ‘2023 Policy’). The said policy was substituted by Punjab Compensation to the Victims of Animal Attacks and Accidents Policy, 2025 (for short ‘2025 Policy’). As per said Policy, Animal Attack/Accident Compensation Committee has to decide claim application.
Learned State counsel assures the Court that competent authority would consider petitioner’s claim as per 2023 Policy read with 2025 Policy and pass an appropriate order within three months from today.
Learned counsel for the petitioner agrees to the aforesaid arrangement.
In the wake of statements of both sides, the petition stands disposed of.
Pending application(s), if any, shall also stand disposed of.
