Shri K. Radhakrishnan, learned Senior Counsel appearing for the Union of India, on instructions, submits that the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on 12th January, 2017 and that the matter is pending for consideration before the said Committee.

Shri Shekhar Naphade, learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner in Writ Petition (Civil) No. 95 of 2015 has raised an issue that it would be desirable to have provisions in the proposed legislation dealing with single parent going for surrogacy and that there is no specific provisions to the said effect in the Bill.

Shri Naphade is permitted to draw the attention of the concerned authority to the said effect for its consideration by means of a representation which will be handed over to the office of the learned Solicitor General of India for necessary action. As the Parliamentary Standing Committed is in seisin of the matter we are of the view that these matters should receive further attention of the Court in the month of July, 2017.
