Learned counsel for the parties submit that the parties have settled the matter. They have produced a letter dated 25.07.2011 written by the Tuticorin Bar Association to the Chairman Tamil Nadu Bar Council, Chennai, Tamil containing the terms of settlement. The relevant portion of the letter is produced as under:

"Accordance with, all the cases filed against advocates on 22.02.2011 by the Courtalam Police station (in Crime Nos. 367/07,366/07,368/07 and and 369/07) were acquitted by the FTC No.1. The cases filed by the advocate side before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Madurai also acquitted. The appeal filed by the police department before the Hon'ble Supreme Court against the order of the Hon'ble High Court in SLP (C ) No. 5523/09 and ordered stay is only pending till now. It seems that if both the parties (Police department and advocates) submit a compromise petition before the Hon'ble Supreme Court then the appeal would be withdrawn. Therefore we request you that there is no necessity to take further action on behalf of tuticorin and Chennai Advocate Association and that we withdraw the complaints as per the agreements already made by the parties and to finalise the matter. We request you to accept this letter and make arrangements to dispose the SLP No.5523/09 pending before the Hon'ble Supreme court of India by representing as 'Not Press'."

In view of the above, the impugned judgment is hereby set aside. The appeal is disposed of in the aforesaid terms.
