Heard Mr. S. Deb, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner.

On advance notice Mr. D. Bhattacharjee, learned GA has appeared for the respondents.

By means of this writ petition, the petitioner has urged this court to direct the respondents to give the revised basic pay in favour of the him in parity of the pay drawn by one of his juniors namely, Srabani Bhowmik, Pharmacist working in the Home (Jail) Department. For this disparity in the basic pay the junior is getting higher pay in the same post than the petitioner. The petitioner has represented before the competent authority for stepping up. The matter was considered by the departmental authority but as this matter relates to stepping up, a reference was made to the Finance Department. So has been stated by Mr. Deb, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner.

At this stage, Mr. Deb, learned counsel has submitted that on the representation of the petitioner for stepping up, no decision has been taken by the competent authority as yet.

Mr. Bhattacharjee, learned GA when queried about this sitting over the representation, he has candidly submitted that the appropriate direction may be issued on the authority to take decision expeditiously.

On the consensus in the Bar, the respondents are directed to decide the representation of the petitioner for stepping up within a period of 3[three] weeks from the date when the petitioner shall place a copy of this order.

It is made absolutely clear that if the petitioner is aggrieved by any decision of the respondents, he shall be at liberty to approach this court again on the same subject matter.

In terms of the above, this writ petition stands disposed of.

No order as to costs.
