The petitioner who is stated to be the wife of a deceased police personnel who was allotted a quarter being MGCC L/S Quarter No. 21 at Police Reserve, Shillong, is before this Court for grant of additional time to vacate the official quarter which had been allotted to her deceased husband.

Mr. A.S. Siddiqui, learned Senior counsel assisted by Ms. M.K. Sah, learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner is in occupation of the quarter which has been allotted to her Late husband, and that proceedings were drawn up against her under The Meghalaya Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1980, and vide order dated 06.12.2022, she has been asked to vacate the quarter by 31.01.2023. He also submits that due to unavoidable reasons, it will not be possible for the petitioner to vacate the quarter by 31.01.2023 i.e. today, and prays that some more time be granted. The learned Senior counsel further submits that the petitioner has no quarrel with the proceedings which has been initiated against her, and that her limited prayer is only for grant of extra time to vacate the premises.

Mr. S. Sen, learned Sr. GA in all fairness submits that some more time may be granted to the petitioner, and it is to be taken that she has accepted the order and that no further appeal will be preferred against the order of eviction.

In consideration of the limited prayer made by the petitioner, and the fact that the order dated 06.12.2022 has been accepted in its totality, in the interest of justice, the petitioner is granted 4(four) weeks further time from today to vacate the said premises. It is made clear that no further extension will granted.

With the noted above directions, this writ petition stands closed and is accordingly disposed of.
