Lawyers are abstaining from work today.

Since the prayer made in the present petition is for protecting the life and liberty of the petitioners, this Court deems it fit and proper to dispose of the present petition on the basis of pleadings made in the petition.

Petitioner No.1 (girl) is of the age of 18 years, whereas petitioner No.2 (boy) is aged 18 years. It is averred in the petition that the family members of petitioner No.1 want her to marry against her wish with the boy of their choice forcibly whereas petitioners like each other and want to marry each other. It is further averred that due to aforesaid reason, at present the petitioners are residing in live-in-relationship as petitioner No.2 has not attained the marriageable age as per law. It is also averred that family of petitioner No.1 is opposing the relationship and therefore, the petitioners are apprehending threat to their lives and liberty at the hands of private respondents No.4 to 6. It is also averred that petitioners have submitted a representation dated 22.09.2023 (Annexure P-3) to respondent No.2-Superintendent of Police, District Kaithal, Haryana but no action has been taken on the same.

This Court does not wish to make any observations with regard to the validity of INTER SE relationship between the petitioners. However, since both the petitioners are stated to be residing in live-in relationship, the scope of present petition pertains only to protection of their lives.

The present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Superintendent of Police, District Kaithal, Haryana that representation dated 22.09.2023 (Annexure P-3) filed by the petitioners seeking protection of their life and liberty, be looked into and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for ensuring the protection of life of the petitioners.
