The grievance of the petitioners was that the respondent-authorities failed to measure their height correctly while considering their candidature for
appointment to the posts of Jail Warder. According to the petitioners, they are both 6' in height but were considered as being only 05' 10''. Certification
by the Civil Hospital, Sangrur, to the effect that the petitioners measure 185 cms. (6'- 0.835'') each is relied upon in this regard.
Admittedly, the petitioners would be entitled to additional marks if their height is 6' . This fact assumes significance in the light of the fact that the cut-
off marks for selection and appointment to the subject post were determined as 29 marks and the petitioners secured 28.63 marks and 28.75 marks
respectively.
In the light of the aforestated facts, it would suffice at this stage if the height of the petitioners is measured afresh so as to determine whether they
would be entitled to award of additional marks, thereby bringing them within the zone of consideration. The petitioners would have to bear the cost of
such physical examination. The exercise in this regard shall be undertaken by the respondent-authorities within two weeks from the date of receipt of
a copy of this order and upon payment of the requisite costs. In the event, the petitioners' height is found to be 6', necessary further action shall be
taken for consideration of their candidature for selection and appointment to the posts of Jail Warder expeditiously and in any event, not later than one
month thereafter.
Disposed of accordingly.
No order as to costs.
