The petitioners have filed the present writ petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a direction to the official respondents to protect their life and liberty from the hands of private respondents No.4 to 7.
The petitioners are stated to be major and have solemnized marriage on 01.10.2019 against the wishes of their parents. Factum of marriage has been pleaded with reference to marriage certificate and photographs (Annexures P-3 and P-4)). The petitioners have an apprehension at the hands of private respondent Nos.4 to 7 and in this regard, they have submitted a representation dated 01.10.2019 (Annexure P-5) to respondent No.2- Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur no action has been taken so far.
At this stage, Mr. Sumeet Sagar Maini,Advocate has put in appearance on behalf of respondent No.5 and prays that respondent No.5 wants to meet the daughter. Since the girl is major as per the averments in the writ petition, this Court cannot force petitioner No.1 to meet respondent No.5 against her wishes.
The present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur to look into the representation of the petitioners dated 01.10.2019 (Annexure P-5) and decide the same and if required, provide adequate security for the protection to the life and liberty of the petitioners.
