The matter pertains to the Jowai-Ratacherra stretch of the principal national highway passing through the State. Previous orders record that work had been taken up on most of the stretch except on the Jowai bypass because the contractor had apparently abandoned the site upon disagreement pertaining to the extent of work.

Mr. Khan, learned Additional Advocate-General, submits that the contractor has returned and the work order has now been issued for the repair work on the bypass from Thadlaskein to Mihmyntdu to be completed by June, 2023.

In view of such submission, let the matter appear in the first week of June, 2023 to ascertain the progress already made.

It is submitted on behalf of the National Highways Authority of India that the remainder of the stretch of road between Jowai and Ratacherra has been repaired and the repair work is complete. The Jowai bypass is handled by the State PWD (Roads). Pursuant to an observation of the Court, meetings have been held between the State and NHAI officials for the purpose of ascertaining whether the Jowai bypass, which forms an integral part of the highway, may be taken over by NHAI.

List on June 5, 2023.
