Judgment
S. Siri Jagan, J.—The petitioner claims to be one of the senior-most Inspectors of the Legal Metrology Department who is entitled to be promoted as Senior Inspectors. The petitioner''s grievance in this writ petition is that the Departmental Promotion Committee is not being convened to select persons for such promotion. The petitioner, therefore, seeks a direction to the respondents to convene the Departmental Promotion Committee (lower) for promotion to the category of Senior Inspectors, Legal Metrology. The very same question was considered by a learned Judge of this Court in W.P.(c) No. 18390/10, in which the following judgment was passed on 30.6.2010.
Petitioners are Inspectors of the Legal Metrology Department. They aspire promotion to the post of Senior Inspector. According to the petitioners, there are 8 existing vacancies. It is also their case that there are four vacancies of Assistant Controllers and that if those vacancies are filled up, there will be consequential vacancies to be filled up from their category. According to the petitioners, in the light of Ext.P2 order of this Court in WP(C) No. 28629/2008 as clarified in Ext.P3 orders, steps are to be taken for convening DPC for filling up the 8 vacancies. It is complaining of delay in convening the DPC, this writ petition has been filed.
Learned Government Pleader, on instructions, submits that steps have already been taken for convening DPC and that the process will be completed on an expeditious basis.
Now that vacancies are available and according to the respondents steps have already been taken to convene DPC and to fill up those vacancies, it is necessary that the process will be completed in a time bound manner.
Therefore, I direct the 2nd respondent to convene DPC and fill up the vacancies of Senior Inspectors as expeditiously as possible, at any rate, within three months of production of a copy of this judgment.
This writ petition is disposed of as above.
In view of the said judgment, no separate directions are necessary in this writ petition. Accordingly, this writ petition is disposed of holding that the direction in that judgment would apply to this case also.
