Rise in braid chopping and consequent unrest persuaded the Court to intervene. The authorities were directed to proceed against the culprits,

incompliance whereof, Special Investigation Teams have been constituted and various cases have been registered. The latest status as filed

suggests that investigation in most of the cases is in full swing. In one of the cases, charge sheet(challan) has been presented.

The trend of braid chopping has been arrested with the timely intervention and swift action by the respondent authorities. Now for last some

months, there is no incident report anywhere in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. In effect, object of Public Interest Litigation is achieved.

The investigation in the cases as have been registered regarding the incidents as have occurred, shall be completed with reasonable dispatch.

The Chief Judicial Magistrates of respective districts, regarding cases which have occurred in their territorial jurisdiction, shall monitor the

investigation conducted by the constituted SIT(s). The SIT shall submit periodical status reports about the investigation and conclusion thereof to

the concerned Chief Judicial Magistrate and in case investigation is complete, to submit final report in terms of Section 173 Cr. P. C before the

court of competent jurisdiction.

This petition shall, accordingly, stand disposed of.
