Apprehending danger to their life and liberty, both petitioners who are in live-in relationship have filed the present petition with a prayer to direct official respondents to protect their life and liberty from respondents No.4 to 6.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both petitioners are major, petitioner No.1 was born on 21.07.2007 and petitioner No.2 on 15.12.2006. Both the petitioners were unmarried. It is further submitted that both petitioners had developed an emotional bond and started living together. Respondents No.4 to 6 were unhappy with the relationship and were extending threats to eliminate the petitioners. Petitioners moved representation to respondents No.2 for protection of their life and liberty but to no avail.

Notice of motion to official respondents only.

Mr. Kunwarbir Singh, AAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents.

Mr. Jaskirat Singh Dhaliwal, appears for respondents No.4 to 6 and submits that parents of petitioner No.1 were desirous of meeting her.

Life and liberty of petitioners has to be protected irrespective of the fact that their relationship does not have approval of society.

Respondents No.4 to 6 may move appropriate application before the concerned police official regarding the same.

Without commenting on the validity of relationship of the petitioners, the petition is disposed of with a direction to the official respondents to decide representation dated 10.09.2026 (Annexure P-3) within a period of one month. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, necessary steps as per law be taken at the earliest, so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners.

However, this order shall neither validate the live-in-status between the petitioners nor shall have any bearing or any civil or criminal action, initiated or to be initiated against them.

Disposed of accordingly.

All the pending miscellaneous applications, if any, stand disposed of.
