Petitioner Gurpreet Singh was convicted and sentenced by Addl. Sessions Judge, Ambala, vide judgment dated 25.04.2012. Feeling aggrieved, the

petitioner-accused had approached this Court by way of filing an appeal, which has since been admitted for regular hearing.

It is stated that passport of petitioner/accused/convict had been taken into possession by the police during investigation of the case and its term has

expired; the petitioner wants to go abroad to meet his father; he had moved an application before the Court of Addl. Sessions Judge, Ambala, seeking

release/return of his passport, which is dated 03.03.2020 but the said application has not been decided so far. Therefore, the petitioner has knocked at

the door of this Court by way of filing the present petition under Section 482 Cr.P.C., notice of which has been given to the State and it is being

represented by the State counsel.

Ld. State counsel has informed that on account of outbreak of COVID-19, the disposal of the application has got delayed and now it is listed for

15.03.2021 for final disposal before the Court of learned Addl. Sessions Judge, Ambala.

Learned counsel for the petitioner states that the petitioner would be satisfied if a direction is issued to learned Addl. Sessions Judge, Ambala to

dispose of his application promptly.

Under the circumstances, the present petition is disposed of, directing Addl. Sessions Judge, Ambala to dispose of the application for release/return of

the passport so moved by the present petitioner, either on the next date of hearing, fixed as 15.03.2021 and if for any reason, it cannot be done, then

within a period of one month thereafter.
