Petitioner-Gurjot Saini, who is alleged to be 23 years old, is alleged to have married petitioner No.2-Gurpreet Singh, who is aged 27 years, on 07.02.2021.

And, vide this petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, as respondents No.4 and 5 (mother and brother of petitioner No.1) never approved their relationship and were against the marriage of the petitioners, they had a perceptible threat perception to their lives and personal liberty.

Notice was issued only to the official respondents on 11.02.2021, and the learned State counsel was required to verify if there was actually any threat to the lives of petitioners.

Today, learned State counsel upon instructions from ASI Ranjit Singh submit that the police officials, from police Station Bullowal, District Hoshiarpur, had visited the petitioners, who reside in village Allowal, as also respondents No.4 and 5, who too are residents of the same village. And, statements of both the parties were recorded separately which show that the petitioners are peacefully settled in their matrimonial home and expressed no grievance/complaint against respondents No.4 and 5. Likewise, even respondents No.4 and 5 maintained, for, they have accepted the marriage between the petitioners and for, petitioner No.1 is happily married and living with her husband, there is neither any occasion nor they intend to interfere in their matrimonial life.

That being so, learned counsel for the petitioners submits that nothing substantive survives in this petition and the same be disposed of as having been rendered infructuous.

In view of the above, the petition is disposed of as having been rendered infructuous. However, learned State counsel shall place on record the statements of the petitioners as also respondents No.4 and 5, alleged to have been recorded yesterday, supported by an affidavit within a week from today.
