Judgment

The compensation awarded is hardly Rs. 5,92,462/- , with interest and other benefits. This amount should have been deposited in this Court by 10th April, 2022. There is no justification for not depositing this amount within the time. Two months' time was more than sufficient for deposit of this amount due to the Claimant for acquisition of his land way back in the year 2006.
Mr. Talaulikar states that the file is pending with the Finance Secretary. Pendency of the file with the Finance Secretary is certainly not an excuse. This is a matter concerning a citizen, whose land has been compulsorily acquired way back in the year 2006 and such files can, certainly, not be kept pending. This observation is made based on the statement of Mr. Talaulikar that the file is indeed pending. However, Court believes that at least such files are expeditiously cleared at that level.
The application for extension of time simply gives the usual reasons, which are entirely unacceptable. The amount now will have to be deposited within 15 days from today. The deposit should be made without giving any excuses, including the excuse that there are vacations.
The application for extension is reluctantly allowed to the aforesaid extent only.
