Election to the 2nd petitioner society is notified to be held on 24.9.2023. The petitioners have approached this Court seeking a direction for grant of adequate Police protection to ensure the smooth conduct of the election and also for a videograpy recording of the polling process.
I have heard learned counsel on either side.
The 1st respondent - Station House Officer, Pathanamthitta Police Station, shall provide adequate Police protection to ensure smooth conduct of the election on 24.9.2023.
As regards the prayer for videograpy of the polling process, if the petitioners make a request to the Electoral Officer, the Electoral officer shall cause necessary arrangements to be made at the expense of the petitioners.
As regards the prayer with regard to production and verification of identity cards and other documents, I have no reason to assume that the Electoral Officer will not abide by the mandates contained under rule 35A(6)(g)(ix) of the KCS Rules.
The writ petition is disposed of with the above directions.
