Judgment
PETITIONER was the complainant before the District Forum where he had filed a complaint alleging deficiency in service on the part of the respondents/opposite parties. It is not necessary to recount the facts of the case except to state that District Forum dismissed the complaint on the ground of jurisdiction. On an appeal filed by the petitioner, it was allowed and the complainant was awarded Rs. 2,220.78 paise along with compensation of Rs. 1,000/- and costs of Rs. 2,000/-. It is only for grant of interest on the awarded amount from 1.4.1994 that the petition has been filed.
HEARD the parties and perused the material on record. It is a fact that no interest has been awarded. We were of the view that in the light of compensation interest was not awarded. Since in our view compensation amount is too meagre and does not cover the interest component, we are inclined to award interest @ 12% p.a. i.e. interest on P.F. Account on the awarded amount from 1.4.1994. Rs. 1,000/- granted as compensation is deleted. Order of the State Commission stands modified accordingly. The Revision Petition is allowed in above terms. Parties to bear their own costs. Revision Petition allowed.
