Pursuant to the previous order of August 22, 2022, the State has approached the Border Roads Organisation and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs of the Union.

The application to the local BRO office has been forwarded to its headquarters.

It is hoped that the relevant authorities approached look into the needs of the North-East sympathetically and agree to put the basic infrastructure pertaining to roads in place for future augmentation and maintenance to be undertaken by the individual State governments. As observed earlier, States with hilly terrain require additional assistance, particularly in the North-East where the State revenue may not be adequate to undertake costly road projects. People living in the far-flung areas of the hilly region need access to healthcare and other facilities and it is a basic right that requires to be taken care of.

The State may make an extraordinary appeal to the Union in such regard, not only for the particular stretch of road which is the subject-matter of the present proceedings, but also generally to improve the road infrastructure in this hilly State which still remains backward and not comparable to the more prosperous parts of the country even 75 years after Independence. Access to basic facilities, which is a fundamental human right, may bring about real azadi for the citizens in the remote regions to celebrate any mahotsav.
