There is a specific pela raised in this petition to the effect that there had been a compromise between the parties in the presence of their parents and the Vice Chancellor of the University and this compromise had been also reported to the police. When the case came up for hearing on November 16, 1987, it was adjourned to enable the counsel appearing for the Advocate General Punjab to obtain instructions with regard to this matter.

Miss Nirmaljit Kaur, Advocate, appearing for the A.G. Punjab states that according to the Assistant Sub Inspector of the police station concerned, who is present in Court to instruct her in this matter, no such compromise had been received by the police through, what he termed as "proper channel." It will thus be seen that there is not clear denial of the plea of compromise put forth by the petitioners. This being so, the petitioners are ordered to be released on bail on furnishing bail bonds to the satisfaction of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ludhiana.

In passing this order it is, however, clarified that if on investigation the compromise pleaded by the petitioners is not found to be genuine or permissible according to law, it shall be open to the prosecution to move for cancellation of the bail granted to the petitioners. A copy of this order be sent to the Senior Supdt. of Police Ludhiana, too.
