The matter pertains to the AMPT Road and its present pitiable condition.

It is heartening to note that Advocate for the State has personally driven about 130 km of the stretch to report on its present state. It appears that the illegal stone-quarrying activities on the sides have led to the use of heavy-duty vehicles that may have damaged the surface.

The petitioner seeks further time to report on the present status of the road.

In the meantime, newspaper reports indicate that even the Chief Minister has visited some stretches of the road and has directed immediate steps to be taken for the repair and construction of the AMPT Road.

Since the petitioner complains of potholes and big craters in some places which makes the road unmotorable, the State should ensure that some temporary measures are taken to level such stretches where the road at present may not be navigable.

Let the matter appear a fortnight hence. The State will report on the steps taken and the likely date for completion of the entire repair and construction work. The petitioner will also be at liberty to indicate how the work has progressed.
