This petition has highlighted various issues in respect of migrant labourers, in particular, regarding providing them food, shelter, medicines etc. during the period of lockdown imposed on account of COVID-19 pandemic.
Reply to the writ petition has been filed by the respondents-State, submitting therein that various welfare measures and schemes are not only in place, but are being implemented for redressing all the issues pointed out in the writ petition and further that the migrant labourers and poor homeless persons are being adequately cared for and provided food, shelter, medicines etc.
On 22.04.2020, we had directed the petitioner to point out specific grievances in respect of the individuals and provide the list of such individuals to the District Administration for redressal. Today, it has been fairly submitted by the petitioner that he has submitted the lists to the concerned District Administrations, to which State has taken proactive role and redressed almost all the grievances raised in the writ petition.
In view of the above, nothing survives for adjudication in the present writ petition. The same is closed with the hope and trust that effective steps will be taken by the State Government for providing food, shelter, medicines etc. to the needy migrant labourers and their grievances, as and when pointed out, shall be redressed appropriately in accordance with law.
With these observations, the writ petition stands disposed of, so also the pending application(s), if any. Certified copy of this order be not insisted upon. Authenticated copy of the aforesaid order be supplied by the Secretary to the learned counsel for the parties, in case so requested.
