This petition was registered on the basis of a letter written by some students of Ravenshaw University regarding the seepage of water from the roofs of the classrooms. A series of directions have been issued by this Court from time to time. By the order dated 5th August 2014, this Court had directed the Chief Engineer to renovate the electrical wiring with good quality insulation and for the Registrar of the Ravenshaw University to extend all cooperation to the Secretary, Works Department as well as the Chief Engineer, GED.
On 21st November, 2014, after perusal of the affidavit filed on behalf of the University, it was observed that repair works of classrooms of Physics Department, the corridors of the Chemistry and Physics Department and one of the rooms occupied by the Chairman of the Council of Deans had not yet started.
Adjourning the case by six weeks, it was expected that the University would, in coordination of the State Government ensure that all repair works found necessary are complete.
Thereafter, there has been no substantive hearing of the case. In other words, it is not known whether in the past nearly eight years after the passing of the order dated 21st November 2014, the entire repair work as envisaged therein has been completed.
The Court accordingly directs that a fresh affidavit be filed on behalf of the Ravenshaw University through its Registrar confirming that the earlier directions issued by this Court on repair works to the various Departments have actually been carried out. The affidavit be filed at least one week prior to the next date.
List on 23rd November, 2022.
A copy of this order be communicated to the Registrar, Ravenshaw University forthwith for compliance.
